Bechtel Awards Main HVAC Systems for the Blue Grass Chemical Weapons Demilitarization Plant to Intermech

May 1, 2010 – Intermech Inc, a Bahnson Holdings, Inc. Group Company, has received the major contract award for the fabrication and installation of the main HVAC systems that will serve the U.S. Army Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP). This award represents Intermech's fifth major contract award in the United States Chemical Weapons Demilitarization Program. The Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant (BGCAPP) is a chemical weapons destruction plant—the last one to be built in the United States—located on the Blue Grass Army Depot, near Richmond, Kentucky, dedicated to the destruction of 523 tons of nerve agents GB (sarin) and VX, and mustard agent, or about two percent of the United States chemical weapons stockpile.

A systems contract was awarded in June 2003 to a joint venture team composed of the California companies Bechtel National, Inc., and Parsons Infrastructure and Technology Group, Inc. The Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass team is contracted to develop a design-build plan for the design, construction, systemization, pilot testing, operation and closure of the Blue Grass Chemical Agent-Destruction Pilot Plant. In 2006, Bechtel Parsons Blue Grass, program partners and local stakeholders celebrated the Groundbreaking Open House on October 28, 2006, to mark the start of construction.

Intermech will fabricate and install general and process related HVAC supply and exhaust air ductwork systems as well as perform the installation of HVAC and mechanical equipment and components. The work will be performed under a strict quality assurance program with rigorous quality control for both fabrication and construction due to the nature of the processes that will be performed in the facilities.
